Missing teeth solutions - Dental implants

We understand that if you have missing teeth, finding the right solution can be a challenge. Fortunately, our dentists are highly experienced at delivering a range of options, with the most permanent and natural replacement being dental implants, the final part of our missing teeth series.

An implant is made up of an artificial titanium root that is permanently fixed to the jawbone like a screw, with a crown or bridge fitted on the top – depending on whether you are having one or more teeth replaced. With a range of options available, they can be fitted, whether you have lost teeth to decay, sporting injury, or an accident.

What’s more, your implants will look and feel just like your natural teeth, so if you are concerned about functional stability or aesthetic issues associated with other replacement teeth, then implants present the ideal solution.

        The benefits of implants
        • There are a number of implant solutions, so you can find one to suit you from single implants and multiple implants, to same day implants and even implant-secured dentures.
        • If you maintain good oral hygiene, implants are a long-term solution, can last for many, many years.
        • Implants prevent ageing bone loss as they stimulate your bone structure and stabilise the surrounding teeth.
        • As a fixed solution, implants won’t come loose or fall out; allowing you to eat, smile and laugh with confidence.

          How your implants are fitted

Dental implants treatment is usually divided into two or three stages, each of which may involve one or more visits to your dentist.

Before implants can be placed, x-rays and impressions of your mouth will be taken to ensure your dental fitness, and to allow your dentist to plan the best way to treat you.

The next stage of treatment is to insert the implant root, which is normally done under local anaesthetic. The implant root will be carefully inserted into the bone and will usually be left for at least three months before it is used to support replacement teeth. Supports or ‘abutments’ will be fitted to the implant root to act as the bed for crowns, bridges or dentures to fit seamlessly onto your implants. To complete your treatment, your dentist will take further impressions, ensuring each part fits to ensure maximum comfort and results from your treatment.

As dental implants are a fixed solution for one or more missing teeth, they will not only help to restore your function, but also your smile and self-confidence.
