Jacquie qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Edinburgh University Dental Hospital in 1991.
On the first day of her new position as a Hygienist she had HGV training! Her week was split between driving a smiley faced ‘Donald The Dental Van’ around the winding and often snowy roads of Central Scotland and the Trossachs treating 100’s of children (and is surprised she actually has any fingers left! ) and also providing Oral Health Education in primary and secondary schools and to other health care professionals. She had great fun for 3 years there.
After moving to the north of England she continued to work for many years mainly in private dentistry, before moving south to Bristol when she joined Portman Edgar Buildings in the Autumn of 2018.
She loves teaching others, and obtained a BA in Educational Studies in 1997 from The University of Stirling, together with other teaching qualifications.
She always loves learning new stuff, especially what it really means to be human and what makes us all tick. She is fasciated by the mind, brain and body’s (including the mouth) interconnectedness to health, well-being and disease.
She has spent the last 15 years studying neuroscience, positive psychology, CBT, NLP, Psycho-spiritual psychology and Non Duality.
She has a very holistic approach to her work as a Hygienist, and is always aware that she is treating a ‘whole person’ not just a mouth, and loves helping her patients ‘join the dots’ to their dental and general health in a simple practical way.
Her gentle calm approach helps patients who are particularly nervous and anxious about having dental treatment settle quickly and easily, and she makes sure everyone feels safe.
Jacquie offers Direct Access Hygienist appointments without a dentist referral and looks forward to welcoming you.
