Facial aesthetics

Wrinkles are part of the ageing process as, over time, the structural makeup of your skin alters. As we get older, we start to see two kinds of wrinkles appear. Dynamic wrinkles are those caused by repeated facial movements and may commonly form around the mouth and eyes, while static wrinkles are those caused by the loss of collagen in your body.

The good news is, you don’t have to live with lines, wrinkles and scars. Edgar Buildings Dental and Implant Clinic offers a wide range of facial aesthetic treatments, including dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, facial peels, and skin needling, to enhance a youthful appearance and boost your self-confidence.

A complete skin consultation and analysis of your face is provided by our practice specialists. Relax in calm, safe environment, where you can take the time to decide on the right skin solution for you.

Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are a fuss-free and straightforward option if you are looking to soften lines and wrinkles, or to lift your brows or jowls. They can also help to slim the lower face and can also be used in conjunction with dermal fillers to create a more natural looking, non-surgical face lift. You may consider anti-wrinkle injections if you suffer from teeth clenching or grinding (bruxism), as the relaxing properties can help alleviate facial tension. They can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Anti-wrinkle injections are a good option for dynamic wrinkles, especially those in the upper part of the face, such as frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and vertical lip lines.

It’s a straightforward treatment where a small amounts of purified protein, commonly known as Botox, is gently injected into the area you wish to target using a very fine needle. The protein helps to reduce the effects of wrinkles by relaxing the muscles in your face and temporarily reducing the number of contractions in these problem areas. The result is younger looking, smoother skin, visible two or three days after your treatment.

Procedure

After applying a numbing cream, a few tiny injections administer small amounts of the purified protein under the skin. The number of injections you receive will depend on the areas that you wish to target, and will take around 15 minutes to complete.

Anti-wrinkle injections are non-surgical, so there’s no recovery period after treatment. The result is a natural-looking improvement to your skin. Effects can last up to four months but you can maintain your youthful looking skin with regular top ups – in fact regular use of anti-wrinkle injections mean that you require fewer top ups.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers plump out fine lines and wrinkles to restore a more youthful appearance, and at Edgar Buildings Dental and Implant Clinic we understand the importance of maintaining healthy, young skin using the most natural option available. Our specialists use a dermal filler called hyaluronic acid (HA), which is something that already naturally occurs in the body – in fact about 50 percent of the body’s HA is found in the skin. As we age the levels of HA decrease and our skin loses hydration, causing classic signs of ageing. HA dermal fillers are a popular option to support the skin’s structures and moisture, effectively delaying these classic signs of ageing.

Procedure

HA can restore lost volume in the cheeks, nose, between the eyebrows and around the mouth, as well as address deep lines and wrinkles. At Edgar Buildings Dental and Implant Clinic we will discuss with you an agreed and personalised treatment plan to achieve the look you envision and your treatment will be tailored to you –  you may wish to incorporate dermal fillers with anti-wrinkle injections, for example. The procedure is straightforward and consists of a few small injections to administer the filler. We apply an anaesthetic cream and the whole procedure for HA dermal fillings will take between half an hour to an hour, while the effects can last from a few months to a couple of years.

Facial peels

A chemical peel (or facial peel) may be on the cards if you want to tackle fine lines around your mouth and eyes. This treatment option may also be recommended if you are looking to improve the appearance of mild scars, treat some kinds of acne, or reduce age spots and dark patches (melasma). A chemical peel will generally even out skin tone and restore a healthier, younger looking you. As well as visually improving your skin, a peel will stimulate the production of collagen in your body, to naturally contribute to an anti-ageing process.

Procedure

Facial peels rejuvenate your skin cells by exfoliating and ‘peeling’ away the uppermost layers of skin on your face. It is a simple procedure, consisting of a chemical solution that is brushed directly onto the skin to remove the dead cells and stimulate new cell growth.

There are three varieties of ‘peel’: superficial, medium and deep. A superficial peel is left on the skin for a few minutes to remove the top layer of skin cells (the epidermis). For a couple of hours after the procedure, your face may feel a little tight, and it is recommended that you keep up regular treatments to maintain the effects. A medium peel is left on for a bit longer than a superficial peel, in order to penetrate to the middle layers of skin. It is usual to feel a burning or stinging sensation during this procedure. The effects of a medium peel can last around six months to a year, at which point it is advisable to keep up the treatment. A deep peel is a one-off treatment that affects the deeper skin cells. This treatment requires a local anesthetic and careful monitoring throughout the process.

Micro skin needling

Collagen and elastin are the natural aids to more youthful looking skin, and micro skin needling is an effective way to nurture and stimulate the production of these two components in your skin. If you are looking for a safe treatment, that doesn’t involve removing any skin cells, you may want to talk to your Edgar Buildings Dental and Implant Clinic specialist about micro skin needling.

By using small needles to gently break the surface of the skin, micro needling encourages your skin to regenerate, and the result is new, more youthful looking skin. It can be used to treat a range of skin problems from wrinkles and fine lines to enlarged pores and acne or chicken pox scars. It can also help to repair sun damage to the face, pigmentation and even help with cellulite and stretch marks.

Procedure

A device containing tiny needles is gently rolled over your face and neck. The tiny punctures alert your skin to go into repair-mode and effectively send a message to rejuvenate your skin and create new, healthy skin cells. Encouraging your body to produce elastin and collagen will result in plumped up skin and improved skin texture. Micro skin needling is an option that even those with a fear of needles can consider, as they are so small that they can even be used around the delicate eye area.

This kind of skin treatment can be tailored to your exact needs. It is advisable to visit for a course of three to five treatments, spaced across four to six week intervals. This will effectively promote stimulation of elastin and collagen in your skin and leave you will lasting results. It is usual to expect some initial redness after treatment that will disappear after 48 hours, and the effects of micro skin needling can last anywhere from two to three months after one treatment or have longer term effects with a series of treatments.
