Wrinkles and lines on the face are all part of the natural ageing
process. To help us slow down this process, at Edgar Buildings Dental
Care you can get expert help combined with new technology to give
you an extra boost - just where you need it.
There are several non-surgical procedures available.
We offer two different types of treatment at the Practice; each will
give your face a younger, smoother more relaxed look.
Wrinkle Relaxing Injections
Deep wrinkles such as frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines
and crows feet are caused by overactive muscle movement which gradually
wear away the collagen in the skin, causing the skin to crease and
wrinkles to appear. Botox® relaxes these muscles, preventing the
formation of wrinkles and smoothing out lines.
How
does it work?
A muscle relaxant is injected directly into the wrinkles, temporarily
relaxing the facial muscles and preventing the formation of wrinkles
and softening existing lines. It gives the face a more relaxed and
smooth appearance. This treatment has been used on over 1 million
patients worldwide for almost 20 years and is supported by a wealth
of long-term safety data.
What can you expect at the time of your procedure?
Botox® is injected into the muscles that cause the wrinkles, using
a very small needle. Several injections are usually needed at specific
sites, depending on the area treated
How long will it last?
The treatment generally takes 5-8 days to work and lasts between 3-4
months (this varies from patient to patient, depending on your strength
of expression), with repeated treatments as advised by Dr Wetton,
the effects tend to last longer over time.
What are the contraindications for treatment?
The use of Botox® is contraindicated in people with neuromuscular
disorders such as myasthenia gravis, those who are taking certain
muscle relaxants and antibodies such as aminoglycosides, pregnant
or breast feeding women, those with injection or inflammation at the
proposed site of injections and bleeding disorders.

What
is it?
Dermal fillers are gels made from the natural substance hyaluronan.
This is injected just beneath the surface of the skin to replace the
collagen and hyaluronan support layer that has deteriorated. The procedure
helps to 'fill out' and smooth away troublesome nose to mouth grooves,
forehead lines, frown furrows, lipstick lines, acne pits and crows
feet .
How is it used?
A few injections can help fill in and smooth away lines and other
skin deficiencies.
It is most commonly used in the lower half of the face to enhance
and emphasise the borders of the lips, it is also effective for augmenting
narrow lips, contouring your skin and cheeks and to recreate a youthful
smile.
As with the wrinkle reducing injections, a small amount of local anaesthetic
is used to ensure complete comfort during the procedure.
The effect is instant, with only a small amount of redness of the
skin which usually wears off within a couple of hours.
